Robert Crawley is the 7th Earl of Grantham and master of Downton Abbey. He married the American heiress Cora Levinson and used her fortune to keep the estate going. He has three daughters and no son, so the earldom was meant for Matthew Crawley and, after Matthew's death, goes to Matthew's son George. In 1930 he gives the running of the estate to Mary and moves with Cora to the Dower House.
